Blue and White Porcelain Plate Designing Class

On Friday, September 2nd, 10:00 am-12:00 pm, will be taking a trip to the National Museum of Korea (국립중앙박물관) for a unique experience, “Blue and White Porcelain Plate Designing Class.” Each participant will have a chance to design their own pattern for the plate and draw with a special pigment for making the blue and white porcelain.

Blue and white porcelain (Chungwha-baekja (청화백자) in Korean) is white pottery and porcelain decorated under the glaze with a blue pigment, generally by using cobalt oxide. Participants will also learn about the history and the making process of the porcelain before designing and drawing.

Two to three weeks after the class, the finished porcelains will be delivered to Itaewon Global Village Center. Participants can pick them up in person once it is delivered to the center.

Each participant will be able to make one plate. Also, if you haven’t had the chance to see the National Museum you could take this opportunity to check it out after the class. (The tour should be reserved in advance at the website of the National Museum of Korea. NOTE: museum tour is NOT part of the class.)

The participation fee is 5,000 won (per plate/Cash Only). Those who want to design more plates should pay additional 5,000 won per plate. You can sign up in person or by email only. To join, please email us your name, nationality, and contact number.
