K-Temple Cooking Class

Itaewon Global Village Center and Temple Food Center will hold a “K-Temple Cooking Class” on Friday, November 25th from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm.

The word, “Janchi” means “feast” in Korean, in reference to the festive occasions on which the dish would be prepared, such as a wedding or a sixtieth birthday celebration. However, this food can be also an easy go-to meal when people crave something warm and light. Essentially, briefly boiled long thin somyeon noodles (소면, somen) are served in a bowl of warm broth made with dried anchovies or beef briskets. However, for this class, we will be using vegetable or kelp broth instead since the temple food center doesn’t use any animal products. For toppings, the most commonly used are carrots and zucchini. In addition, we will be making stir-fried pumpkin with mushrooms as a side dish.

A monk will show a demonstration on how to make five-colored temple noodles & stir-fried pumpkin with mushrooms. After the demonstration, participants will be divided into groups, each group will have 3-4 members. Together, as a group, they will have to cook together to make the two dishes. Group members will have to share cooking stations and other kitchen utensils. Participants need to bring their own container in order to bring the food that you cooked.
