20250117_Tteokguk Cooking Class
Itaewon Global Village Center, together with the Korean Food Promotion Institute, is hosting a Korean cooking class on January 17, 2025 (Fri) from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm at Hansik Space Eum (near Anguk Station). This time we will be learning how to make "Tteokguk" (Rice Cake Soup)
"Tteokguk" is a traditional Korean dish usually eaten during "Seolnal" or Korean New Year. "Tteokguk" came from two Korean words: "tteok" meaning rice cake, and "guk" meaning soup. Basically, it is a soup made by boiling tteok or rice cake and other ingredients. Eating tteokguk on New Year's Day is traditionally believed to grant good luck for the year and confer one year of age. It is usually garnished with thin julienned cooked eggs, marinated meat, gim or seaweed, and some sesame oil.
