20250703_Cooking Class with Glasslock

Itaewon Global Village Center, together with Korean Food Promotion Institute and Glasslock Korea, is hosting a Korean cooking class on July 3, 2025 (Thursday) from 2:00pm to 4:00pm at Hansik Space Eum (near Anguk Station). This time we will be learning how to make two traditional Korean dishes: tteokgalbi and soondubujjigae.

Tteokgalbi (떡갈비) is a traditional Korean dish made from minced beef or pork, carefully seasoned and grilled to perfection. Its name literally means "rice cake ribs," referencing its soft, chewy texture that resembles tteok (rice cake) and the fact that it's made from galbi (short ribs). Originally a royal court dish from the Jeolla Province, tteokgalbi was created as an elegant way to enjoy the rich flavor of rib meat without the bones.

Soondubu-jjigae (순두부찌개) is a popular Korean stew made with soondubu, or extra-soft uncurdled tofu, which gives the dish its signature silky texture. The stew is typically served piping hot in a stone bowl and features a spicy, savory broth made with gochugaru (Korean red pepper flakes), garlic, and anchovy or kelp-based stock. It is a hearty and comforting, this dish is a staple in Korean home cooking and restaurants alike, especially enjoyed during cold weather. Its bold flavors and warming quality make it a beloved comfort food across Korea.

Lastly, as a bonus, all participants will get a chance to taste 감자채. 감자채 (gamjachae) refers to shredded or julienned potatoes in Korean cuisine. The word is from two Korean words: 감자 (gamja): potato and 채 (chae): thin strips or shreds, often used for vegetables. (NOTE: Gamjachae is for demonstration and tasting only)
